June 2007
From the Pastor’s Desk:
When it comes to supply and demand, we do things backward here at
activity tends to drop off some in the summer as we take vacations, travel,
and spend time in the outdoors.
Recognizing this reality, we adjust our schedules by cutting back on
activities such as Sunday school, quilting, confirmation, board and
committee meetings, etc.
But when it comes to worship, we do just the opposite.
During the time when worship attendance tends to be lowest, we
increase our number of services from one to two.
Sunday tends to be more formal; midweek more relaxed.
The reason
This summer we are moving the midweek service from Wednesday to
Monday, at 7 p.m. Reasons for
doing this:
·
By being closer to the weekend, it reminds people that the midweek service
is not a separate worship service, but is an opportunity for those not in
town over the weekend to catch up on what they missed.
·
It helps the pastor and others who have a leading role in worship to focus
on one service at a time, rather then carrying over one service while
preparing for the next.
·
It helps people to stay on schedule.
Many members were never clear on whether the Wednesday service was a
continuation of the previous Sunday or a preview of the coming Sunday.
At the end of the summer, we will reevaluate whether this schedule is
helping us accomplish our
mission. In the meantime, I
invite you to enjoy the benefits of a flexible schedule that allows you to
stay connected in worship while enjoying what summer in

Randy and Joni Cook will take over the Junior High LYO in the fall. Jodi and Andy Hitz are considering being leaders for the Senior High LYO.
Kid Squad ended on May 9th. Bert suggested dividing up the kids into two age groups. Some discussion, while great, isn’t appropriate for the young kids. Other things mentioned in the discussion was mentioning prayer concerns to the group and service projects.
The cost for individuals to go to camp is $350. The goal is to give $250 per child from the church to help cover the costs. With the number of kids going the goal is to have $1000. The kids have been working at the concession stand at the high school and have raised some of the money for the camper ships.
