SALEM QUILTERS

Salem Quilters are dedicated to the cause of tying quilts for those less fortunate than us.  The quilts are distributed to various missions locally and abroad.  We meet every Tuesday at 1:30 pm from September to May.  Coffee and snacks are served after an afternoon's work.  We welcome all those at every level of experience who are interested in joining us.

The quilters would like to thank all the people who helped pack up the quilts and kits on Sunday, April 10.  Also thanks to Bunn OMatic, Fareway, and Hy-Vee for providing boxes for us.  G & H Shipping takes the quilts to St. Paul for us and we are very grateful to them for that service.  The bandages were taken to G & H shipping in Greenfield.  They will transport them without charge to Minneapolis, MN.  Lucille Lundy of Orient brought 19 baby quilts and those plus our 10 will be taken to Broadlawns Hospital in Des Moines.  They are used for babies at risk.  Thank you to all of you who continue to support us through your work, material, and donations.  There are many, many people who benefit from this so may we all continue to work in the service of the Lord.   The last day of quilting will be May 31.

On April 10, 2005, 77 quilts, 10 baby quilts, 60 lbs. of bandages, 10 school kits, 2 sewing kits, 8 health kits, 15 fabric kits, and 13 layettes were dedicated during the 10:30 am worship service.  Thanks to Claudia Peppers for rolling the bandages and to everyone who contributed to the fall in-gathering for the kits.  Quilters who have contributed so much of their time include:

Joyce Anderson, Carolyn Biere, Barb Bjorn, Bev Butler, Jan Eilers, Annette Fehrle, Ella Groff, Nancy Groth, Pat Grumley, Helen Herzberg, Linda Huffman, Viola Johnson, Kris Luddington, Dorothy McNaught, Flossie Mosman, Lois Olsen, Claudia Peppers, Willard & Wanda Peterson, Mary Richards, Francis Roberg, Flossie Roberts, Lola Strauser, Alice Swanson, Donna Swanson, Eleanor Toycen and Betty Wager.

The quilts were dedicated in memory of Virginia Jackson and Betty Schoening who were very active in quilting.

Salem Quilters would like to thank LaVerne & Joyce Anderson for delivering 41 quilts, one blanket and two boxes of men’s clothing to Lutheran World Relief.   They also delivered eight ABC quilts to Broadlawns Children’s hospital in Des Moines.  Unfortunately G&H of Greenfield is unable to ship for us under their new management, however, Russ Wachter has volunteered to deliver the quilts now.  THANK YOU RUSS!

Salem Quilters will kick off the quilting season with a potluck and resume quilting on September 2nd .  Be sure to check your linen closets and dressers for extra sheets, blankets, material and thread/yarn that can be donated to the quilters.  Thanks!
